Some days owning your own business is everything it is cracked up to be. Today was one of those days. Fay was at an Assistance League meeting and Tiffany was giving a lecture to the LA County Quilt Guild.
So it was just Peggy and I. We cut out some more Creepers Peepers kits. The panel is very cute.
As are the silly bats for the border.
Michelle made our sample that is hanging behind the counter. Ours is a little different than the pattern as we used some alternative fabrics. Ours has a great black/grey/white chevron in place of the green.
Three different people came and picked out fabric for the Madison’s Star quilt class that I am teaching. This is the first one that I made.
These are the fabrics for my second one:
These are Diane’s:
Connie’s:
and Peggy chose these:
It should be very exciting to see how they all come out. There are eight students, so I’ll have to get pictures of the other fabric selections.
One of the best parts of the day was teaching three teenage boys how to sew pockets onto t-shirts. Alex, Paul and Daniel came into the store a few weeks ago to look around. That is one of the greatest perks about our move to The Blvd. New people interested in sewing. After a while they picked out a couple of fat quarters.
Then last week they came in and asked about a class to teach them how to sew pockets onto a shirt. So we spent a couple of hours together. And they were amazing!
They cut out, pressed and sewed. It was so much fun to see how much they enjoyed the process.
Pockets completed. Next up pajama bottoms.
Those are the highlights of my day. How was yours?

White with Red Accents–A Canadian Holiday
Last week Cuisine Kathleen had a “Let There Be White” challenge. I was out of town and unable to set a table for Canada Day on July 1st.
So I decided to set my white tablescape with red accents to celebrate the public holiday celebrated in parts of Canada on the first Monday in August.
I picked up the maple leaf placemats early last fall. When I saw them they instantly said Canadian tablescape to me.
Fluted edge chargers were topped with the same three plates I used for last years O Canada table. It’s amazing how changing just one element is a stack of dishes can give you a completely different look.
Some ikat napkins I had made for another tablescape worked perfectly, but then I found some freeform red leaves on white at Bolts. I see a fall tablescape with the placemats coming soon.
The beer steins are very special to me. My cousin Bob won them at Klondike Days in Edmonton playing a carnival game when we were in high school. I can’t remember how many dimes he tossed, but almost 40 years (really?) latter I still have all six that he won.
I love the shimmer of their iridescent finish.
The straws were in a drawer in the kitchen, I picked them up on sale years ago at Pier 1. Little fireworks at the table.
A beautiful white maple leaf plate found at an antique store one weekend with the the Golf Guy holds some candy appetizers.
The sideboard is set to coordinate with the table.
Happy holiday to my friends and family in Canada. May you have a fabulous day!

Long Beach International Quilt Show–Part 1
On Friday I went to the last Long Beach International Quilt Show with my friend Tiffany from Needle in a Hayes Stack.
It is moving to Oregon next year and won’t be as easy to get to, so we went on a R & D road trip. Ticket in hand we entered the venue. Be forewarned this post and the following parts will be filled with lots of pictures.
Hoffman Challenge Quilts:
“Twenty-five Roses – Happy Anniversary”by Nancy Lou Mc Allister
Rows of pleating with hand stitched beading and an origami like border.
“Five Sentinels in the Garden”
by Charlotte Jackson
Pictures don’t do justice to this quilt.
“Pearls and Swirls”
by Linda Coleman
The challenge fabric is used as the base for the circles. Do you recognize it in the other quilts?
“Tidal Pool”
by Rachel Robinov
I loved these shells, their shimmer was more evident in person.
“Cherry Blossoms”
by Gayle Shelton
Amazing quilting.
“A Rose for Jo”
by Joanne Foote
The leaves looked as if they were real.
“Migraine”
by Laurena Blair
I don’t know about you, but this is a perfect example of the ice pick I feel when I have a migraine.
“Reflections”
by Susan Trindle
Beautiful serenity.
More to come later tonight.
