White with Red Accents–A Canadian Holiday

Last week Cuisine Kathleen had a “Let There Be White” challenge. I was out of town and unable to set a table for Canada Day on July 1st.



So I decided to set my white tablescape with red accents to celebrate the public holiday celebrated in parts of Canada on the first Monday in August.





I picked up the maple leaf placemats early last fall. When I saw them they instantly said  Canadian tablescape to me.

 

Fluted edge chargers were topped with the same three plates I used for last years  O Canada table. It’s amazing how changing just one element is a stack of dishes can give you a completely different look.

Some ikat napkins I had made for another tablescape worked perfectly, but then I found some freeform red leaves on white at Bolts. I see a fall tablescape with the placemats coming soon.



The beer steins are very special to me. My cousin Bob won them  at Klondike Days in Edmonton playing a carnival game when we were in high school. I can’t remember how many dimes he tossed, but almost 40 years (really?) latter I still have all six that he won.



I love the shimmer of their iridescent finish.



The straws were in a drawer in the kitchen, I picked them up on sale years ago at Pier 1. Little fireworks at the table.



A beautiful white maple leaf  plate found at an antique store one weekend with the the Golf Guy holds some candy appetizers.





The sideboard is set to coordinate with the table.

Long Beach International Quilt Show–Part 1

On Friday I went to the last Long Beach International Quilt Show with my friend Tiffany from  Needle in a Hayes Stack.



It is moving to Oregon next year and won’t be as easy to get to, so we went on a R & D road trip. Ticket in hand we entered the venue. Be forewarned this post  and the following parts will be filled with lots of pictures.
