When I purchased them at Target in the kids party aisle they were silver coated plastic with plastic rhinestones.
The plastic shine in silver didn’t match the table. So I aged them with multiple coats of RUST-OLEUM gloss protective enamel paint in antique white. Each crown was sprayed three light coats allowing 20 minutes drying time between each coat.
They were then flipped right side up and sprayed with three more light coats.
and coated them three times from the top.
When dry each tiara was brushed with Martha Stewart Living Glitter Specialty Finish in Champagne from Home Depot.
The end result : Tiaras for big girls. The ivory and gold looks much more regal.
And went perfectly with the tablescape.
I had so much fun painting the tiaras, I think I will be on the lookout for something else to transform with paint.
