Purple Presents–Mum’s Birthday Table

You never know what you are going to come across as you wander the aisles of Home Goods. As soon as I saw the purple dishes I used for this tablescape I knew they would be a perfect gift for my mum.

As her birthday falls very close to Thanksgiving (sometimes the same day), I waited until we had used up the leftovers before having a birthday celebration.

So on Monday when we sat down to dinner I told her that her gift boxes were empty, her presents were the wine glasses and the salad & dinner plates.

It was so much fun designing this birthday present for a woman I am honored to call my mum. She is also one of my best friends.

Wide purple ribbon from Michael’s wrap the table as the first present. An antique rectangular silver tray anchors the center of the table and gives the gifts a stage.

Round placemats are topped with white chargers I use all the time.

Mum’s new dishes are topped with antique shrimp cocktail glassware from my Aunt Fern – mum’s sister.

They are two pieces so the bottom may be filled with ice.

I made purple sateen napkins - silver beaded napkin rings with tassels add some sparkle.

The birthday dishes. I was given mum’s wedding flatware years ago. It was perfect for this tablescape.

The purple crackle stemware is from Pier 1 and I found the water goblets last summer at the Home Goods in Boise.

I used a lot of shades of purple, but they all seemed to go together.

Salad of celery, pear and hazelnuts,

was followed by white wine poached salmon, yellow French beans, acorn squash and multi-colored Israeli couscous. It tasted better than it looks in the pictures.

So I lift my glass to my mum - Ora.  Happy Birthday.

I Love You and thank you for the gift of life, laughter, your friendship and your love. Being your daughter is a joy and I am truly blessed to have you for my mum and been raised by you and Gordie.

To everyone else - thank you for celebrating my mum’s 82 birthday with me.

Stitch at you Soon,
Dawna

  3. Happy Birthday to your mom! What a thoughtful daughter you are, Dawna. Clever idea to use the ribbon on the table to look like it's a gift box and then to add the beribboned boxes down the center is even better. I'm going to remember these ideas. Love the pretty purple paisley dishes. Lucky mom!
